Serene litters in the Finnish DogNet (opens a new window)
| Here you can read a story of my first litters - most of them have no genetic significange for myself any more. Those Serene dogs out there right now are not related to these "old ones". Sorry, the translation is not finished yet. My very first litter. I liked what I had seen by Ch Cobb's Red Blazer, and I thought this dog would have made an excellent couple with my Pippuri - he was compact with a very good croup and rear. Unfortunately this beautiful dog died before Pippuri was in season. Pippuri's breeder Merja Ylhäinen had three pretty puppies by Red Blazer, two successful bitches and a dog that had never been shown. Being just as stubborn as I am nowadays, I wanted to use just the dog. The resulting litter was:
It is quite typical for a beginner to keep one of the bitches - I did that, too. My pick was Sabre Dance aka "Hillevi" but I realised very soon that my mother wanted to have her. She was not a big beauty, but very kind, social and playful until she died to a cancer at the age of 13. She was shown a couple of times and got one CC, and she was a Tracking Champion. She was never bred even though she was a healthy little dog. One of her sisters Sally Be Jolly had a litter of four. From that litter is Apricot, the dam of my SL-litter. In summer 1990 I was working at Laurent Pichard's famous La Vigie kennels. This is when I got to know Laurent. The next winter Laurent sent me a black gentleman called Int & Fr Ch Lurola's Omen, for showing and breeding. Omen was a very pleasing dog, and we had great love for each other. I sent him back home with tears in my eyes. To get better coat for Pippuri's puppies, I bred her to Omen:
The timing of the litter was not too good thinking of my studies, so I didn't keep anything. Seed of Success was shown a couple of times and got one CC, Sea of Secrets had her title finished. Nobody was ever bred. I had got a black bitch from my Swiss summer, Natural Look de la Vigie aka "Jenna". Jenna lived at my mom's until she died at the age of 13. She was shown only a couple of times but had a CC quality. The sire of her first litter was also from Laurent, Marvellous Bingo de la Vigie - that is why I named the puppies "Swiss".
Swissman I Am aka "Roni" was shown to his title and he had a group placement. Swiss With A Wish "Vinski" had a CC quality, shown only once. Swiss Little Miss aka "Sissi" had two CC's. Nobody was ever bred. It was 1989 Pippuri's breeder was going to buy a sable dog from Denmark and she told me about a pretty buff litter sister. This sister was Holgersson's Idaho Ida who later moved to Finland and I placed her with breeding terms. She was pretty as sin but very small. She was BOS puppy in our Club Show but was never shown as adult. We had hard times getting her pregnant until in summer 1992 I had another La Vigie showdog - black&white Int Ch Homestead's Fletch. I guess it was "love at first sight" because now we got
I didn't keep either one even though I have later thought that I should've... Fletch was a great dog with excellent pedigree. I guess it was his overwhelming liveliness that made it clear to me that I would not want to have particolors... I do like happy dogs but he was something special! After Fletch returned back home Laurent sent me one specially for Jenna; Am Ch Show Me Hu-Mar's Wages of Cin aka "Bubba". I finished his Finnish title and bred to Jenna he gave me three pretty puppies:
It was my mom again who wanted to keep the black male. Since "Mickey" had a huge coat he mostly spent time with me, even he enjoyed his years of retirement at my mom's. He died in car accident at the age of 12, still in very good condition. Mickey was my first really successful homebred dog. Together we had group wins in three countries, many wonderful memories winning BIS as he was flying around the ring. He became Int & Fin & Dk Ch, (he was never shown in Sweden or Estonia) and he was #1 winning am.cocker in Finland for 1995. Unfortunately he got epilepsy and I never used him for breeding. I placed one of the girls Sinless Dreamer aka "Wanda", but we lost her before her 1st birthday to a subacute hemorrhagic diarrhea (HGE). The other girl was shown a couple of times and got one CC. In summer 1991 I had purchased a black bitch from Laurent, Fin Ch Eveil D'Une Passion de la Vigie aka "Lysie". Her dam was one of my favourites while I was there, and she was sired by a great showdog & procuder of those times, Multi Ch Sebewa Creek Icing on the Cake. The sire of Lysie's first litter was a beautiful black&tan Int & Fin Ch Doggone High Ya'll aka "Texas".
I had promised the only bitch to a family so I couldn't keep her. Some of the boys stayed a bit longer and especially Sky's On Fire aka "Rondo", who was shown to his title and even got two BIS-placements and a CACIB, but then moved to a family. Skyhigh Flying aka "Monza" also received his Ch title easily before his accidental death at young age. This litter is a combination of my old lines and those lines that I work now with. The dam was bred, when the family wanted to breed a bitch they had bought from me - she was bred to one of my visitors, Ch Silverhall Sean O'Malley. I bought the only bitch from the litter and placed her, this was Apricot - well constructed but was not shown because her coat was never in show condition. Apricot was bred to a U.S. import out of Gazon/ Sham-O-Jet lines, Ch Gazon Chitina Bootlegger, and they got four puppies:
Once again my mom wanted to keep one "teddybear" no matter how much I tried to resist. Slaphappy Matt aka "Matias" stayed at home. He was shown to his championship and he won a Group 1st at international show on the way. Now he enjoys his "happy days" with my mom. The only bitch Slice O'Heaven aka "Miri" was placed to a perfect, active home since she is an active girl! Her owner Nina has trained her for agility as well as rescue training. Miri has two CC's from junior classes and has not been shown since. Lysie had her second litter sired by a stylish gentleman, Am & Can & Fin Ch Brookwood Bullet Proof. This time we also got some girls:
Two of them were shown, Solar Eclipse aka "Gini" and Soft About Soul aka "Sony" - both gained their titles with ease. I still didn't have too much luck. Sony was lost to acute purulent myelitis after his 3rd birthday. After all Gini didn't have puppies either. |
